Sometimes you just need to find a good starting point before digging into the details.
Royal Caribbean's Adventure Ocean program offers impressive kids programming that parents will enjoy for the well-trained supervision and educational qualities and kids will love because, well, it is a lot of fun.
If you are new to Adventure Ocean, here are the basics to understand so you know what to expect when dropping your kids off on embarkation day.
Royal Caribbean breaks up children into different groups based on their ages.
This is done to ensure programming is age-appropriate and interesting.
- Aquanauts: Ages 3-5 years old (must be toilet trained – no diapers or pull-ups)
- Explorers: Ages 6-8 years old
- Voyagers: Ages 9-11 years old
- Navigators: Ages 12-14 years old
- Guests: Ages 15-17 years old
All children’s activities are supervised by male and female youth staff, professionally certified in education, recreation and/or preschool, or having qualified experience in working with children ages 3-17.
There are types of sessions available at Adventure Ocean: port and sea day schedules.

On embarkation day, there will be an abbreviated session available later in the evening. Exact times on embarkation day will vary from sailing to sailing.
All the Adventure Ocean programming until 10pm is complimentary. Optionally, you can also leave your kids in the 10pm - 2am session for an additional fee of $8 per hour.
Adventure Ocean is open to all kids on your Royal Caribbean cruise, you just need to register your children.
On embarkation day, there will be open hours in Adventure Ocean to register your children.
All that is required is to provide information about your children, any special needs, and who can bring or pick them up.
This is your opportunity to ask questions, convey concerns and discuss any concerns you may have. The Adventure Ocean staff can answer most questions and ensure when it is time to bring your kids for their first session, there are no issues.
Parents can register their children at any point during the cruise at Adventure Ocean, but it is easier and quicker to do it on embarkation day during the open hours. Additionally, the open hours allow parents time to explore the facility along with their children and see what is offered.
Once Adventure Ocean opens for a session, you can drop your kids off at any point in that session. That means you can drop them off right when it begins or hours into it.
When you bring the children, you will be instructed to sign them in and the kids will take off their shoes and wash their hands prior to entering.
There is nothing special that children need to bring with them. Everything will be provided, including food if they happen to be there during a meal time (such as lunch on a port day).
